An Anxious Mother's Prayer
Remorsefully, I pray for safety,
(set your mind on things above)
The sound of shots --
One more, and more.
What a tragedy!
(It's all over the news)
They offer their prayers and their thoughts
(but God forbid you take away the guns)
What if, what if,
What if it is his turn?
Safety, salvation, what matters most?
(I cling to the here and now,
so I don't pray for his soul.)
Do you understand, Lord?
You do.
You are down-to-earth.
You care about man made of clay.
